Update For My Readers

Hey WordPress friends! I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer. I am all kinds of busy this month, and you may or may not have noticed this.

Since I last wrote, I have been hard at work in my three business classes I’m taking for summer term. I’m neck deep in homework and studying and it has been a little overwhelming. Basically, the professor is having to cram in ten weeks worth of information into six weeks, and it’s frazzling my brain a little bit and taking up a lot of my time. So I just wanted to write this post to let you know I’m still alive, and I do have  more blog posts coming very soon. If time allows, hopefully I’ll have one out by tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

I have read from several bloggers, and almost all of them have said one of the best ways to have a successful and interesting blog is to plan plan plan. Plan out the week, or the month, or however you want to plan, just plan and do it often. I’ve tried planning for the month, and sadly, right now anyway, that just isn’t the way that works for me. I am at least planning in my mind what I’d like to blog about next, but I don’t have a calendar in front of me telling me what my posting goals are, though that is the eventual goal for me. All I can muster up right now is what project I am financially able to do next, as well as what project I am able to do based on the amount of free time that I have.

So just to give you all an update, I do plan on finishing up the table project I’ve been working on, and a post on that will be coming to you soon, within the next few weeks. I also plan on posting about some fun DIY decorations for parties or other events. I’m a bridesmaid for my soon-to-be sister-in-law, and I am going to be decorating for her bridal shower, so I’ve been doing a lot of fun decoration projects in preparation for her shower. So I’ll be filling you all in on those DIY’s as well.

Thank you all for reading, I really do appreciate the time you take to read my posts, and I hope you continue to stop by my blog. I welcome any feedback, and I’m happy to take suggestions for content or just let me know in general what you think of my projects as I post about them. I’m not even a year into having this blog, so I’m still learning what kind of planning and writing works for me, and I’m just thankful for those who read my posts and like the content.

That’s all for now, thanks everyone!

Table Project – Part 3

Hey everyone, happy Saturday to you all!

I have very good news, I was able to come up with enough money to buy a new computer on Wednesday! It’s actually used, but refurbished, and it’s a 2012 MacBook Pro. So thankfully I can keep up with the blog and put it back to its normal pace!

I have God to thank for this blessing. Kris and I have had times when we are really down to nothing in our bank account, and as soon as we have a bill or some other unexpected expense coming our way, we always end up with exactly what we need, every time. I’m very thankful for how He he has provided, and this week He has done it once again ♥

So with that, I’ll go ahead and jump into part three of this decorating adventure!

These are sketches that I drew up a few days ago, and they are both different ways I might approach decorating the space around the table.

PLEASE excuse the poor quality of these photos! I did edit them so that they would be easier to look at, but for some reason when they carried over to my computer, they got switched back to their original state. I’m new to having an Apple computer, so I’m still trying to learn how to use it. I will eventually post better quality photos.

The photo on the left features a large piece of wall art that would sit on the table and lean up against the wall. Next to that on the left I drew another picture frame that would be sitting on a sliced tree round. To the right of that, on the other side of the table, I’d  take some leftover cans and dress them up to put flowers in them. Then, on the wall would be the key hook art that I posted about in part 1, and then above that would be a fun, floral wreath.

The photo on the right also features a large piece of wall art, only this time with a large vase and a flower to accompany it. Then in the middle, I thought I might try and find a plant box and add that to the table. Next to that would be a container for Nessy’s treats and then above that, again, would be the key hook art.

These are just some general ideas, just to put me in some kind of direction as to how I want to approach the space. So I might end up with a combination of both drawings.

I have to drive through the heart of town almost daily to get to school or work, and I’ve noticed that there are several thrift stores and local decoration stores all over. I was thinking that it would be fun to find my items there. So with luck, I might find a cool new vase or some wall art, those are my specific goals.

I also decided that I’m going to paint the wood in that Serenity Blue color that I discovered the other day. So hopefully, within the next week, I’ll be able to start painting. We shall see!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments below what you think! I’d love to hear from you 🙂

Have a great weekend!

New Adjustments for New Circumstances

Hey WordPress people. As some of you may have noticed, I didn’t post my weekly highlights feature over the weekend.

Something went wrong with my laptop, basically my computer doesn’t recognize internet, like at all. I don’t know how else to explain it, but it means my computer is beyond repair and I have to rely on my husband’s. So it was just a lot to deal with and the feature fell through this week, I’m sorry guys!

On top of that, I have summer term starting today , so I have to rely entirely on library computers (which don’t let me log onto WordPress) and my husband’s laptop for all of my blogging/internet needs. I’m pretty frustrated at this inconvenience, and because I am now sharing a computer, I’m limited to how often I can use it, since he uses it quite a bit.

I’ve been giving it some thought, and I think due to these circumstances, it would make more sense to turn my weekly feature into a monthly one. This way I will have a longer period of time to work on the feature, and it will take a little less time over the decorating portion of my blog, since I need to make that my primary focus.

I have made more adjustments to this blog than I feel comfortable with so far, but life sometimes throws a wrench into my plans, and I need to just learn how to adjust to the challenges. After all, I’m not perfect, and sometimes things can go wrong.

So starting next month, I will post my first monthly feature, and continue Little Things of the Week in that format.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up, whoever reads it that is.

Hope you all have a GREAT Monday! 🙂

Table Project – Part 2

Hello all, happy Wednesday! How are you this week?

I’m feeling pretty good today, it’s day 3 of my brief summer break. I’m feeling well rested and excited to tackle this table project I have planned!

I got started on sanding one of the three pieces of wood today, and it is definitely a little harder than I thought it would be. I did some research online to find the best approach with cedar wood.  There was a page on eBay that has been extremely helpful to me, and it advised me to use sandpaper with grit between 140 to 180. This is because cedar wood is soft and porous (the higher the grit, the less coarse the sandpaper). It also said to use tack cloth along with it, specifically after the sanding, to pick up all of the dust and particles sanded off of the wood. You can click here to view the article.

So far this is how it’s looking after the first round of sanding.

I walked over to Bi Mart for these materials and was able to find sandpaper with a grit of 150, along with some tack cloth. Together these cost me only $4.28, pretty cheap!

And of course as soon as I was ready to get started, my furry sidekick Nessy was sitting on the table, so properly, waiting to assist me ♥

While I was at the store, I looked in the paint section to see what my options were and what prices I’d be facing later on. I came across a really nice, soft blue color called Serenity Blue. This light color would allow our hardwood floors to stand out quite a bit I think. I’m considering this as one of my color options, but I’d still like to keep myself open to other ideas. I use blue a lot these days, so it might be nice to break out from that, but we will see.

I might need to go over the first piece once more, I got it pretty well smoothed out, but I might need to make it smoother. I think I’ll ask my husband first what he thinks and then decide. I haven’t done any wood projects before, and he knows a little more about this stuff than I do.

That’s all I’ve got for you today! Any advise or critique is welcome, and greatly appreciated!

Thanks for stopping by!

Table Project – Part 1

Hello readers! How are you doing today? Well, I hope 😀

I’m feeling excited for the week ahead! I have the entire five days off before my summer term begins next Monday.

With all of this free time in front of me, I decided to take on a new project for the apartment.

A family from my church had some cedar wood leftover from a project of their own, and they were gracious enough to let me have some extra pieces. So this week I plan on building a small console table in the hallway of the apartment.

I was able to stand the three pieces up, so this is what it will look like. I do however plan on painting the table. I still haven’t decided on a color yet, but I’m planning on doing some searching on Pinterest tonight for some inspiration.

There are so many ideas running through my mind as to how I want to decorate on and around the table!           One thing I know for sure is that Kris and I need a space for our keys. When I redid the entryway wall, I didn’t have room for them. Kris spotted this cool decoration at Ross on Saturday, and I plan on putting this up next to the table.

Beyond that, I’m not yet sure how I’d like to decorate. Hopefully Pinterest will be of inspiration!

I’m really excited to work on this! It isn’t likely that I’ll have the whole thing finished in a week, money is tight right now. I’m excited to just get started on it, and I’ll keep you all up to date on my work!

Thanks for reading! If you have any suggestions or other comments, let me know, I’d love to hear from you!

Little Things of the Week #6

Hey WordPress friends! What a week this has been! I’m so excited to get into the highlights, I had my finals this last week and graduated yesterday. I’ll go ahead and jump right into it!

Weekly Feature 6-5

This last Wednesday was date night with Kris. We take turns every week on what we want to do. So two weeks ago I picked a movie night, and this week he chose to take me out to eat at this really cool Vietnamese restaurant in town called Kimhoa’s.

It was really fun! I can’t remembered the name of the soup I ordered, but it had egg noodles, pork and wan tons. It was so good! It took a while to eat though, because they didn’t give us forks in case we couldn’t handle the chopsticks and ladles, haha! I did eventually get the hang of the technique.

We had a really nice time here, and had an interesting discussion about the culture and about geography of that area in general. It was really fun to try and educational too. It was just fun to try something new, I love Asian foods but I had never tried Vietnamese until Wednesday. We will definitely go back!

The majority of my pictures are from yesterday, since it was definitely the highlight of my week! Yesterday, I graduated from college, and it was the best day!

I worked hard for five years, and I finally am getting what I hoped for all this time ♥

I will receive (after my final term this summer) my degree in Business, and hopefully with that, I will be able to have my dream job of being a Home Stager!

Weekly Feature 6-6

I was really excited to find out that we were allowed to decorate our caps, so of course, for the entire month I was thinking of a million different ways I could do it. I finally decided on my Up themed cap as you can see here.

Songs of the week:

Who’s To Say → Vanessa Carlton – I love this song. It came up on shuffle while I was in the car, and I have been listening to it a lot this week. It has a pretty melody and chorus, and the words are great. It reminds me of when Kris and I were dating in high school and talked about getting married one day. Thankfully our families supported us, but a lot of other people we encountered would constantly tell us “You’re too young” or “marriage is no walk in the park, it takes work and it isn’t always fun”. Of course we knew all of these things, but we knew what we have is the real thing. So this song really speaks to me, because I got so tired of people saying things like that to us.

Also, she has so much talent and I want so badly to play piano as well as she does! I took lessons for nine years but I’m not quite at her level, ha!

That is the only song I have for this week, as well as highlights. It is much shorter than normal, but graduation really was the highlight of my week. Next week is my break before summer term, so I might have more adventures to share with you all.

Did any of you graduate this year? Any fun songs stuck in your head this week? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!

Little Things of the Week #5

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying your weekend! It’s hard to believe it’s already coming to a close. I’ve been busy the entire time and now that I’m actually sitting down, I wonder how it went by so quickly!

Anyway, I had a really pleasant week, and I’m ready to share with you all some of the highlights!

Weekly Feature 5-3

I took this photo in the school library on Tuesday. It was dead week last week (week before finals), and I decided to spend a few hours on the quiet flood and hammer some assignments out. I’m a weirdo, but I LOVE spending time on the quiet floor of the library. Absolute silence gives me peace and helps me relax, I know a few people who feel like they get anxious when there’s too much quiet, but I’ve always found it to be so pleasant.

I’m also not a very social person, I try and put myself out there now and then, but no one can talk or interact on this floor so that keeps me calm too. I finished a lot of homework that day, and then I came back and stayed for a few hours the next day. I was a very productive person for those two days!

Weekly Feature 5-2

This is a photo of my planner, and as you can see it is very decorated! My mother in law works at a little craft shop and she bought me all kinds of stamps and stickers for my planner throughout the year. I’m OBSESSED with them. As silly as it sounds, I feel like making my planner a little colorful and decorated makes the day seem a little more cheerful ♥ I’m a planner, I have to plan my day out, but I also like to make things pretty, so writing out my schedule is one of my favorite parts of the day.

My favorite part of this entire week was date night with my husband, which was on Wednesday. There is an old movie theater in town that plays classic movies, and they feature a different one each week. So this week they played Jaws. I can’t even begin to tell you how crazy I am about that movie, I . Love. It. I first saw it when I was six years old. I realize that is very young, but for whatever reason, I loved it.

So Kristofer took me to see it at the theater, and I had the absolute best time. As cheesy as this is, I got a little tearful during the movie. I had such a busy week, and getting to watch something that I love, that is part of my childhood, it gave me an overwhelming sense of comfort…despite the fact that it’s a movie about a killer shark LOL. Anyway, it was the best.

I’ve seen footage of people in the audience of a theater when it first came out, and all of them screaming at once when something scary happened, and I’d always thought “Man, that would be so fun to experience, to go back in time when all these classic movies came out, getting to experience it for the very first time”. When I was watching it, I felt like I was back in 1975 when Jaws had first come out, and I even got to witness everyone jump in fear when something scary happened – of course I didn’t, because I’ve seen it so many times that I knew it was coming haha.

Weekly Feature 5-4

This photo is out of order from the rest, but I spent last weekend with my friends – and former roommates up until I got married – and we went out shopping and just hung out together. They are two friends that I can be a goofball around, and I am so thankful they are part of my life ♥ When this was taken, they were getting ready to move and there were boxes everywhere. So naturally, I tried to fit into them hence this great photo.

I thought this week I’d also add a favorite music feature, and might continue it, we’ll see. But I love the show One Tree Hill, and I binged watched a few episodes this week. One of the best parts of the show is the music that plays in every episode. This show came out in the early 2000s, so whenever I watch an episode, it is such a musical throwback and I love it. There were a few songs that I heard in the show this week that were really fun to hear again.

The Mixed Tape – Jack’s Mannequin » I haven’t heard this one before until this week honestly, but it sounds like a lot of the music I listened to in my middle school years, you know,  when life was so hard and no one understood me (eye rolls encouraged LOL).

Move Along – The All-American Rejects » This song was a huge favorite when I was twelve…well…okay it’s still a favorite. I will always love this song. I have listened to this one on repeat on some pretty rough days.

A Message – Coldplay » Sadly, and in my opinion, Coldplay doesn’t have this wonderful sound anymore. This song, and this album in general was so amazing. I especially loved this song when I was in middle school. This is one of the albums that defined ages 11-14 for me.

The season I was watching aired in 2005-2006, so a lot of the music I loved at that time were during my middle school years. Hearing all those songs was a fun throwback for me!

I am sure there will be more music from OTH that I obsess over, so don’t you worry 😉

Anyway, that’s my week in a nutshell. I had a good one!

Do you have any fun throwback songs you’ve heard recently that you love? Any fun date nights you went on? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!
